French
“Language is the roadmap of a culture. It tells you where its people come from and where they are going.” – Rita Mae Brown
The Kite French curriculum, which is taught in KS2, encourages pupils’ curiosity and interest in the wider world and helps pupils to view themselves as ’global citizens’. Whether our pupils continue to study French or choose another language to study in secondary school, this introduction to French serves as an opening to learning about different cultures and people. French lessons are taught largely through the high-quality platform, Language Angels, which also allows pupils to hear native French speakers during lessons. The primary focus of the curriculum is initially speaking and listening, which is regularly practised in order to build fluency, before progressing to the written language. Pupils also have the opportunity to learn about aspects of French culture and geography to better build their understanding of where French is spoken around the world.
