Academies' Improvement & Support Team (AsIST)

What we do

Our aim is to support practitioners and leaders at all levels in our academies to develop and improve inclusive practice and provision, enabling the very best outcomes for all.  Led by a Head of Improvement, our small team of dedicated professionals comprises of a Lead Inclusion Advisor, two further Improvement Advisors, four Home School Link Workers (one with a specialism in education welfare work), an Inclusion Support Assistant and Supply Teacher. Our priority is to facilitate a safe, inclusive learning community enabling our academies to challenge, support, improve, innovate and learn from one another. Working in collaboration with Head Teachers, Executive Head Teachers and the Central Team, we establish priorities for all academies, not just those experiencing difficulty.  

We work at three different levels

  • Working alongside leaders we identify Kite-wide areas for focused development and devise training and support in line with these
  • Working alongside individual academies developing Improvement Plan priorities
  • Working alongside small groups/individuals on focused areas

 We can support through

  • Teaching and Learning development
  • Signposting support from experienced colleagues (internally and externally)
  • Observation and feedback opportunities
  • Guidance for leaders at all levels
  • Supervision opportunities
  • Action and Improvement Plan developments and their implementation
  • Individual development plans linked to Personal Growth
  • Maintaining an oversight of Kite-wide policy
  • Disseminating key educational developments, building on research and sharing of best practice

 We may do this by

  • Building relationships through leading and facilitating networks
  • Using our supply teacher to release individuals for staff members’ own development
  • Meeting with leaders
  • Planning alongside colleagues
  • Team teaching
  • Collaborative planning
  • Coaching and mentoring
  • Liaising with Kite Central Team in designing training programmes
  • Evaluating the support given and the impact of initiatives in order to drive future improvement
